Control isn’t lost all at once.
It shows up in how work moves, how teams operate, and in outcomes that begin to shift.
Background
I’ve spent over 20 years working inside service-driven organisations across multiple industries and geographies, including the UK and US.
Much of that time has been spent stepping into environments where operations are under pressure, whether due to scale, complexity, or operational drift, and bringing them back under control.
This has included situations where performance, client confidence, and commercial outcomes were at risk, requiring structure, clear ownership, and the ability to stabilise execution.
What I repeatedly saw
Across organisations, the pattern is consistent.
Teams are capable.
People are committed.
But operations become difficult to control.
Work arrives faster than it can be prioritised.
Visibility is limited.
Teams operate in a constant state of reaction.
Activity is high.
Value is inconsistent.
This isn’t a people problem.
It’s a system problem.
Why Serve or Service exists
Serve or Service exists to bring control back into how work gets done.
Every organisation delivers a service.
Few are structured to deliver it consistently.
By focusing on how work flows — from demand through to execution and outcomes — it becomes possible to stabilise delivery and reconnect effort with results.
If operational effort doesn’t translate into commercial outcomes, something in the system is broken.
Every organisation delivers a service.
The question is whether the organisation is designed to deliver it well.
